Drumlin i Clew Bay, Irland Drumliner är landformer av morän som skapats subglacialt, dvs under en glaciär . Drumliner är orienterade parallellt med isens rörelseriktning och uppträder ofta svärmvis.
Drumlin, smooth, half egg-shaped or ellipsoidal hill which formed beneath Quaternary GLACIERS. Drumlins [Gaelic druim, "hill"] were first described in Ireland. They lie parallel to the direction of ice movement, the blunt (stoss) end facing up-glacier, the lee sloping down-glacier.

Lateral moraines termed Röthlisberger-Schneebeli moraines, are formed partly by transverse flows and are essentially half drumlins or flutings. Some fields of drumlins and flutings are shown to occur in constricted areas of former ice flows. 2021-04-10

Its long axis is parallel with the presumed longitudinal flow of a former glacier, with the tail pointing away from the glacier foot. Drumlins often occur in clusters - drumlin fields - with their long axes in approximate alignment.

Drumlins form in clusters apparently near the terminus of glaciers. The mechanisms are debated. They appear to have important interpretive value for direction and rate of glacial movement.
These include drumlins and glacial erratics. Drumlins are gently rounded hills in the form of giant, inverted spoons. They were created when ice deposited a jumbled layer of clay, sand, gravel and rock called till. Drumlins contain a high proportion of clay and are often no more than three-quarters of a mile long and half a mile wide. During the ice ages of the last 2 million years, glaciers sculpted the land surface forming, amongst other features, the many rounded and elongated hills called drumlins that are seen from the Thruway between Rochester and Syracuse. Drumlins and erratics are just two of the fascinating glacial artifacts that we can observe while we wait for the ice sheet to come back with another load. Michael J. Drumlins are widespread geomorphic features that result from subglacial processes acting at the ice/bed interface. Drumlin fields that formed during former glaciations are found over much of the northern hemisphere (Clark and others, Reference Clark, Hughes, Greenwood, Spagnolo and Ng 2009).
